Who gave them this Authority?
It was snuck into the Ed Omnibus Bill of 2022 (SB 681/662) carried by the team of Senator Cindy O’Laughlin (R) and Senator Lauren Arthur (D).
That progressive 2022 Ed Omnibus Bill had a lot snuck into it. And now they are coming after our kids with SEL with their new authority given to them under RSMo 170.307.

The lawmakers gave DESE dangerous sweeping authority by adding “…shall promulgate the rules…”
Why do lawmakers do this?
What is SEL? Social Emotional Learning?
SEL (Social Emotional Learning) can be defined in many ways. It depends on who is implementing it. It’s better to understand what is being put under its scope.
Most recently it has been used as the vehicle to bring critical pedagogy (think CRT), systematic changes, social justice, sex education, psychological experiments, data collection, and more into the classroom.
It is all of this ⬇️

SEL is wrapped into the CDC’s Whole Child WSCC model as well.

Local Control MO wrote about WSCC and how Missouri State Republicans are pushing it into our schools through laws to force public schools to teach progressive mental health and Sex Education for MO classrooms here. ⬇️
James Lindsey has many podcasts on the subject of SEL and this one is recommended by this author. ⬇️

The State Board of Education and Missouri Department of Education has been teaming up with the progressive group Hunt Institute to help create the linguistics of these standards. They have done this all through the “Blue Ribbon Commission” to give the appearance of popular support.
So what now? How do we prevent Missouri Department of Education and the State Board of Education from forcing SEL in Missouri Public Schools?
First Step is to fill out the Survey by September 15, 2023.

Too much psychobabble and not enough focus on excellence in academics! It took me over 30 minutes to fill it out, as I read through all of the categories and then read them a second time looking for not only what was said, but what was NOT said. Like self expression - does that include Christians, Republicans. patriots, or just those who toe the line? Under respect, nothing said about listening to the teachers and following classroom rules. And I said if a kid has no emotional regulation, they should not be in a classroom with kids who are trying to learn. I quit volunteering in classrooms several years ago (my kids are grown) as the disruptive students face zero consequences for being disrespectful, and making it hard for the kids who want to learn.
