Senator Curtis Trent is Giving Away Children’s PII.
Trent’s 2023 bill, SB 628, gave away Personally Identifiable Information (PII) on children in Missouri state funded child care centers to 3rd party vendors, contractors, etc.
Senator Curtis Trent filed SB 628 in the 2023 regular session. Here is that language.
As we can see, this section was put on MANY omnibus bills last 2023 session that were irresponsibly pushed through the last few weeks with little to no discussion.
Trent’s original bill never made it out of committee and was never carefully vetted.
Pay attention to the section “2.” in the language.
This is allowing “any state agency” to disclose “personally identifiable information to any governmental entity or its agents, vendors, grantees, and contractors in connection to matters relating to its official duties.”
Let’s break that one sentence down.
Any state agency - this is very broad and opens the door for children’s PII to go into any state database anywhere, with many opportunities for cyber hacking.
Agents - too broad and opens the door up to putting children’s data in the hands of many.
Vendors - this allows any vendor to access this information. Who is a vendor? Anyone that buys and sells goods or services. Is the state buying and selling children’s data now?
Grantees - as in is those administering grants? Data can now be given to 3rd party grants for them to data mine children and sell their data to vendors?
Contractors - anyone can be a contractor. Anyone.
“In connection to matters relating to its official duties.” - This means that any state agency can use children’s PII and give it to basically anyone as long as it has to do with their agency’s line of work.
Let’s say the health department wants to do a study on children who have been vaccinated or not in state-funded child care centers. Are maybe who lives in a home with a gun. They can now send that data to any of their vendors, contractors, etc without parental consent.
Well guess who is on a speaking tour to get the state to fund child care?
The US Chamber of Commerce along with the Missouri Chamber. I know you are shocked (sarcasm font).
Well it always starts with a “study.” And just like most studies, it isn’t based on information derived from thorough studies using meta data.
Basically… it’s junk science research presented in a shiny package with a lot of useless charts and images to sell to the low info voters.
And then they use the study to declare a “crisis.”
Yes, the unelected big corporations of the Chamber of Commerce are declaring a crisis, ha!
What’s the old saying…never let a good crisis go to waste?
There are plenty more examples, but the point is…. that the media is on board with making you think there is a crisis and therefore getting behind a movement to demand that the government expand. To create more laws that further chip away at our rights.
Don’t fall for it.
The corporations can provide child care for their own employees. That is not the government’s responsibility.
Why isn’t anyone demanding that we help parents, especially mothers, stay in their homes longer during the early formative years instead?
Once the state funded child care centers expand, small children will be used for nothing more than government studies/experiments and data collection to send to the highest bidder.
Soon this Local Control Mo author will write separately about the P-20 Council (saddle up for that one!) and how it is collecting data on children from preschool to 20 years of age and sending it to a national database. Cradle to Grave.
Call your reps and tell them to repeal this Section (210.1360) in the law carried by Senator Trent and to protect the PII of children in Missouri.
